Boomers bounce Bolts in ten

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Jereme Milons walk-off single in the tenth beat the ThunderBolts 4-3 in Schaumburg Tuesday night.

Milons and the Boomers began the scoring in the second inning. With Steve McQuail at second base, Milons hit a two-out single to put his team up 1-0.

That hit was followed by a rain delay that lasted just under an hour and a half. Out of the delay, the Bolts quickly tied the score. In the top of the third, Travis Weaver singled and scored on a Chris Wade double.

The score remained tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the sixth inning. Sean Mahley hit a bases loaded single to reclaim the lead for the Boomers, 3-1.

Again, the ThunderBolts were quick to respond. They loaded the bases with no outs and Mike Torres doubled down the leftfield line to score Ryan Cuneo and Zach Aakhus and tie the score at three.

Both teams had chances to score after that but the game went to ten innings, tied at three.

The Bolts left two men on base in the top of the tenth and in the bottom of the inning, Schaumburg put men on second and third with two outs. Milons hit a grounder just out of Wade’s reach and Frank Pfister, who had singled to begin the inning, crossed the plate with the winning run.

Patrick Mincey (4-3) earned the win for Schaumburg after pitching a scoreless tenth. Andy Mee (3-2) took the loss, pitching an inning and allowing the winning run to reach.

The ThunderBolts continue their big three-game series with the Schaumburg Boomers on Wednesday. Game two’s pitching matchup will feature Mike Recchia (10-2, 2.16) for Windy City and Cameron Roth (8-6, 2.99) for Schaumburg. The game begins at 6:30 in Schaumburg and can be heard on WXAV, 88.3 fm and wxav.com.
