Play suspended between Windy City and Normal

NORMAL, IL - The Windy City ThunderBolts (2-1) met the Normal CornBelters (1-1) Sunday night in the final matchup of the 3-game series, at the Corn Crib in Normal, IL. The CornBelters led 1-0 in the fourth inning when play was suspended due to rain.

The CornBelters bats were quick to score as they tallied the game’s only run in the bottom of the first inning. After Steven Felix reached first on an error, he was able to steal second to put himself in scoring position for current batter Pat Trettel. Starting ThunderBolt pitcher Duke Dykeman then threw the only recorded hit of the game with Trettel recording an RBI single, bringing Felix home.

The ThunderBolts out batted the ‘Belters, recording 5 hits through the top of the 4th inning, but were unable to capitalize on any of those scoring opportunities. Rain started to fall in the 4th inning and after a 1 hour-57 minute rain delay the game was officially postponed.

Duke Dykeman only gave up one hit in the time the game was played, the run scored being unearned due to the error on the play. He had two strikeouts, and two straight innings in which he retired all three batters he faced. From the other side, starting pitcher Justin Albert started out strong striking out three of the first four batters that he faced. The ThunderBolts got opportunities on 2 singles in the 4th but could not score. Albert would end the day with 5 hits allowed and 3 strikeouts in 4 innings played.

The game will be picked up in the fourth inning as part of a double header at Standard Bank Stadium on July 16th.
