Bolts get revenge in blowout win

Torres
CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts rebounded from a 10-0 loss on Saturday with a 14-1 drubbing of the Gateway Grizzlies at Standard Bank Stadium on Sunday night.
Windy City took their first lead in the third inning when Quentin Luquette walked and Brandon Anderson singled in front of Mike Torres, who laced a double down the left field line to score them both. Torres later scored on a Gateway error.
They put another crooked number on the board in the fifth. Anderson and Nick Kuroczko each doubled to begin the inning before Torres walked and Zach Aakhus’ bunt single loaded the bases for Alex Chavez who singled home Kuroczko and Torres.
The offensive explosion continued the next couple of innings as they scored four in the sixth and four in the seventh. With the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth inning, DJ Fitzgerald came up with his first extra-base hit as a ThunderBolt, doubling home three runs. The big hit in the seventh was an Aakhus two-run double. Torres and Chavez also had RBI hits in the inning.
As the offense kept piling on, Bolts starter Guido Fonseca turned in his best performance of the year, allowing just three hits and a walk over seven shutout innings. During his time in the game, only one man reached second base.
The only run scored by the Grizzlies came on an RBI groundout for Nick Farnsworth in the ninth. He scored Derek Jenning, who had singled earlier in the inning.
Offensively, the Bolts were paced by Mike Torres, who had three hits, three RBI and four runs scored. Aakhus, Chavez and Fitzgerald all turned in three RBI performances as well and both Luquette and Kuroczko scored three runs.
Fonseca was the winning pitcher (3-10), earning his first win as a ThunderBolts since coming over from Rockford and Nolan Shaffer took the loss (5-5).
After a Monday off, the ThunderBolts begin a six-game roadtrip in Rockford on Tuesday. Game one at Road Ranger Stadium will feature Matt Jernstad (5-8) tossing for the Bolts against Chris Nyman (1-2). The 7:05 game can be heard on WXAV, 88.3 fm and wxav.com.
