ThunderBolts End Road Trip With Doubleheader Sweep

The ThunderBolts ended their four game losing streak in a big way Wednesday night, completing a doubleheader sweep of the Traverse City Beach Bums at Wuerfel Park, winning a suspended contest 8-4 and 2-0 in the seven inning game two.
Tuesday night, the ThunderBolts and Beach Bums locked up in a back and forth contest. Traverse City took a 2-0 lead in the first inning but Windy City tied it in the second. The Beach Bums added a run in the bottom of the second, but the Bolts tied again on a Michael Torres fifth inning RBI single. Traverse City went ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth, but it was the last time they would lead as Dan Jordan homered in the top of the sixth inning to even the score at four.
The eighth inning is where things got interesting. The Bolts scored twice, going ahead for the first time in the game 6-4 when it started to pour. Play was suspended and resumed with two outs in the top of the eighth on Wednesday night. Windy City added two more runs in the picked up inning and held on for an 8-4 victory. Bradley Blanks (1-1) received the victory while Andrew Paulauskas (1-2) took the loss. Every ThunderBolt had at least one hit except Mike Sullivan who knocked in the game-winning run on a groundout.
Game two was every bit the pitcher’s duel that was expected when Matt Jernstad and Kevin Reese were named the starters. The only runs scored came in the third inning when Gilberto Mejia singled with one out and stole second and third. With two outs, Ryne White, JT Restko and Tim Alberts hit consecutive singles giving the Bolts a 2-0 lead. That was all Matt Jernstad needed.
The Beach Bums had one scoring opportunity in the fourth when they loaded the bases with one out, but Matt Brown grounded into a double play and they never threatened again.
Jernstad improved to 4-2 on the win, his second complete game shutout of the year. He allowed three hits and struck out four. Kevin Reese (3-2) took the loss in his complete game effort.
The ThunderBolts return home for a quick three game homestand on Thursday. They will take on the Oakland County Cruisers for the first time this season. Joe Scumaci (0-0) will be making his first start for Windy City after two relief appearances. The game, which starts at 7:05, can be heard live on sportsjuice.com.
