Bolts break their doldrums

Dustin Pease pitched his first career complete game as the Windy City ThunderBolts made a fourth inning run stand up, breaking a six game losing streak, beat the River City Rascals 3-2.

After giving up a run in the top of the first, The ThunderBolts got right back in the bottom of the inning. Guillermo Martinez singled and stole second and third where he stood when J. T. Restko doubled to tie the game at 1-1. Windy City would eventually load up the bases for Dan Jordan who walked to force in a run and put the Bolts up 2-1.

River City would tie the game in the second inning on a wild pitch. The game would stay locked at 2-2 until the fourth. Damian Walcott doubled to lead off the inning and moved up to third on a groundout by Gilberto Mejia. Martinez came up next and singled home Walcott for a 3-2 Windy City lead.

That was all that Dustin Pease (7-3) would need as he went the route, allowing seven hit and two runs, walking four and striking out three. Pease got stronger as the game went on, retiring 16 of the final 19 batters he faced. The only trouble he was in past the fourth came in the seventh when with two outs, the Rascals had runners on second and third. Pease bore down and was able to retire Jo-Jo Batten on a groundout to short to end the frame. Overall in the contest, Pease was able to force the 2-5 hitters in the Rascals order to go 1-for-15. Jake Laber (7-3) took the loss for River City.

In the middle game of the series Ross Stout (6-2, 2.55) will go for Windy City against Daniel Howard (3-3, 4.98) for the Rascals.
