Bolts stomp Crushers 4-3

CRESTWOOD, IL- The Windy City ThunderBolts edged the Lake Erie Crushers 4-3 Wednesday evening at Ozinga Field. 

Two-out situational hitting proved to be the difference for the ThunderBolts, accumulating all four runs in the game with two outs.

 

Windy City (29-38) wasted no time striking in the bottom of the first inning. Following a sacrifice fly by Micah Yonamine, Jake Boone and Dan Robinson each tallied an RBI single, giving the Bolts a 3-0 lead after the first frame.

 

Scout Knotts responded with an RBI double in the top of the second inning for Lake Erie (27-41), cutting the Bolts lead to 3-1. 

 

The Crushers knotted the score at 3-3 in the top of the fourth inning when Drew Galassi cranked a two-run home run with two outs.

 

 

The ball game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Bren Spillane singled to keep the inning alive. Peyton Isaacson knocked an RBI double to left field putting the Bolts on top 4-3.

 

Windy City all-star Garrett Christman (6-2) threw seven innings allowing six hits and three runs, while walking two and striking out eight. 

 

Sebastian Selway pitched a scoreless inning of work in the eighth, while Daiveyon Whittle struck out two in the ninth, notching his seventh save of the season and wrapping up a series win for the ThunderBolts.

 

Lake Erie starting pitcher Angelo Baez (4-6) tossed six innings, allowing no earned runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out four.

 

The ThunderBolts wrap up the series against the Crushers with game three on Thursday evening at Ozinga Field with a 6:35 first pitch. Javier Reynoso (2-1, 5.38) starts for the Bolts against Lake Erie's Matt Mulhearn (4-4, 4.02).
