Bolts power by Capitales 4-2

QUBEC, QC- The Windy City ThunderBolts won the second game of a three game series in Quebec Saturday evening, 4-2 at Stade Canac.

 

Windy City (15-23) starting pitcher Logan Schmitt tossed 6.1 innings giving up two runs on six hits while striking out eight and walking two.

 

The scoreboard showed goose eggs until the top of the fifth inning. Windy City catcher Jonathan Waite blasted his third home run of the series to left center field for a 1-0 Bolts lead. 

 

Shortly after the home run, Quebec (18-19) removed starting pitcher Abdiel Saldana, who threw 4.2 innings, enduring one run on two hits, while striking out six and walking one. 

 

Capitales shortstop Kyle Crowl led off the bottom of the sixth inning by smashing his seventh home run of the season to dead center field knotting the game at 1-1.

 

In the top of the seventh inning with two outs, Bolts first baseman Micah Yonamine singled to left field. Shortly after, Yonamine stole second base following a fly out by Waite. Left fielder Paul Coumuolos drove a line drive RBI single to right field for a 2-1 Windy City lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning. 

 

Quickly, the Capitales clawed back in the game.  A one out, four pitch walk off Schmitt and back to back singles tied the game 2-2 off the bat of Jordan Siket. Cal Djuraskovic came in to relieve Schmitt and struck out both batters faced in the bottom of the seventh inning.

 

Cal Djuraskovic (1-0) earned the win striking out two of the three batters he faced.

 

The ThunderBolts struck the big fly in the top of the eighth inning to take the lead. Following a Jake Boone single, ThunderBolts center fielder Bren Spillane towered his second two-run big fly of the series and team-leading seventh of the season, putting Windy City on top 4-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. 

 

Austin Marozas came into the bottom of the ninth inning looking to save the game leading 4-2. With two outs and runners on first and second base, Marozas struck out Krowl in a thrilling finish for his first save of the season.

 

Windy City is back in action looking for their first sweep of the season at 4:05 CT in the finale of the Canada road swing. Taylor Sugg (2-1, 3.08) is scheduled to take the mound for Windy City against Carlos Sano (2-1, 3.33) fort the Capitales.
