FLAKE WRANGLES RASCALS IN 5-1 GEM

May 31, 2008 - CRESTWOOD, Ill. – Stephen Flake (2-0) pitched his first complete game for Windy City as the ThunderBolts won their second game in a row against River City 5-1 on Saturday night at Standard Bank Stadium.

Flake was outstanding in just his second career professional start giving up just one run on four hits. He struck out seven batters while walking four. “Being a starter now, I love it,” Flake said afterwards. “We’ve got a great team. I know we started off slow but it seems like everything is coming together and I’m just happy to be here.”

River City starter Chris Clem (1-2) went 6.0 innings allowing five runs, three earned, on eight hits and four strikeouts.

The big blow was in the fourth inning for Windy City as the ‘Bolts scored four runs in the frame. Windy City loaded the bases with no outs and scored a run after Brett Amyx grounded one back to the pitcher that Clem mishandled for an error. A wild pitch scored the second run and Amos Ramon delivered an RBI-single one out later. Mike Coles capped off the scoring in the inning with an RBI base hit to right. The ThunderBolts tacked on one more in the fifth thanks to an RBI-single by Amyx.

Windy City will conclude the three-game series against River City and the six-game home stand tomorrow night at 6:05. Amos Ramon (0-0, 1.46) will take the hill for the ‘Bolts and will oppose Jonathon Miller (0-1, 0.67) of the Rascals.

Those who enter the gate with a coupon from Standard Bank will receive two dollars off the price of admission.
