ThunderBolts take series in Washington

Bolts 9 Things 1

WASHINGTON, PA – A four-run seventh inning helped the ThunderBolts put the Washington Wild Things away as they won their second straight game for the first time since starting the season 3-0. Nine to one was the final score at Wild Things Park Thursday night.

The first nine ThunderBolt hitters were retired by Michael Austin, who had five strikeouts through three innings and finished the game with ten, but Omar Obregon led off the fourth inning with a single. Tim Zier followed with a home run to put the Bolts (14-27) ahead 2-0

They carried that lead into the sixth, when Washington (25-17) put runners at first and third with two outs. Paddy Ledet, who had not allowed a run in 5.2 innings departed and Drew Peden was greeted to the game by a Kyle Pollock single that scored a run. Peden retired the next batter, stranding the tying run at second base.

The Bolts proceeded to put the game away in the seventh with six straight baserunners. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for Jonathan McCray, who singled home two runs. Matt Brown scored all the way from first as well on a throwing error on the play. Zier picked up his third RBI with a single that scored McCray.

In the ninth inning, Brown walked and Zier singled in front of Axel Johnson, who picked up his seventh hit of the series, a three-run homer that made the final score 9-1.

Ledet (3-4) ended up allowing one run in 5.2 innings for the win while Austin (0-1) allowed just two hits in 6.1 innings but took the loss.

The ThunderBolts return home Friday to start a three-game series with the Traverse City Beach Bums. Game one will feature Eddie Avila (0-2, 5.71) on the mound against Traverse City’s Matt Murphy (0-2, 5.00). It is Harry Potter Night at Standard Bank Stadium with a postgame fireworks show and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05. Fans not in attendance can hear the broadcast through wcthunderbolts.com.
