Bolts eliminated from playoffs in loss to Schaumburg

Boomers 4 Bolts 1

CRESTWOOD, IL – The Schaumburg Boomers scored four runs in the first two innings and held off the ThunderBolts in a 4-1 final at Standard Bank Stadium Saturday night.

The loss coupled with a Washington win in Traverse City eliminated the ThunderBolts from playoff contention.

The Boomers (66-29) jumped on ThunderBolts starter Will Landsheft early, getting hits from three of their first four batters. After Kyle Ruchim singled and John Holland doubled, both scored on a Zack Weigel tripe.

Andrew Brodbeck singled and Nick Oddo doubled to begin the second inning. RBIs came from Jack Parenty on a single and Ruchim on a sacrifice fly.

Landsheft settled down and did not allow another run over his final 2.1 innings and the bullpen was strong with Chris Chigas and Patrick Ledet combining on 4.2 shutout frames but the deficit was too much for the ThunderBolts (50-45), who were shutout over the first five innings by Joe Hauser.

Keenyn Walker helped the Bolts break through in the sixth with a leadoff double. He scored on a Coco Johnson base hit, cutting the deficit to 4-1. That was all the offense could muster, though, as Hauser and a trio of relievers combined to hold the Windy City bats hitless over the final 12 outs.

Hauser (4-1) allowed one run on four hits over six innings and earned the win. Landsheft (6-10) took the loss, allowing four runs in 4.1 innings.

The series and the 2017 season conclude on Sunday. Jake Fisher (10-7, 2.85) will make his final start in a ThunderBolts uniform and can become the team’s all-time winningest pitcher. He’ll be opposed by Schaumburg’s Michael Wood (4-3, 4.67). It is Family Day presented by JULIE featuring a reptile show courtesy of Dave DiNaso’s Traveling World of Reptiles. First pitch from Standard Bank Stadium is scheduled for 5:05 and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
