ThunderBolts win streak halted in loss to Gateway

Grizzlies 5 Bolts 0

SAUGET, IL – The ThunderBolts’ six game winning streak came to an end as Will Landsheft fired seven shutout innings and guided the Gateway Grizzlies to a 5-0 win at GCS Credit Union Ballpark Tuesday night.

Both Landsheft and Windy City starter Drake Robison got off to strong starts as Landsheft retired the first nine batters he faced and Robison set down the first eight in a row.

The Grizzlies (13-36) jumped on Robison in the fourth as Dan Holst singled to begin the inning. A walk and a single loaded the bases with only one out and Robison walked Joel McKeithan to force in the game’s first run. The next batter, Zac Michener, singled in two more runs, picking up his first professional hit in the process. Andrew Lowe came in with the bases loaded and one out and pitched out of the jam with no further damage.

Gateway did add two more in the next inning, though, as Jack Hranec hit a two-run homer to make the score 5-0.

The ThunderBolts (26-21) threatened twice but could not score. In the fourth inning, they had men at the corners with one out but Riley Krane struck out and Kyle Wood was caught stealing to end the threat.

In the sixth inning, Blair Beck singled and Coco Johnson walked and both men stole to put runners at second and third with one out but Landsheft pitched out of it again.

Landsheft (3-4) struck out seven in his seven innigns for the win. Robison (0-2) took the loss, allowing three runs in 3.1 innings.
