ThunderBolts hold off Slammers, win 7-6

CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts battled from behind and held off a late charge in a 7-6 win over the Joliet Slammers at Standard Bank Stadium Thursday night.

The Bolts struck first, scoring a run on three hits in the first. Mike Torres singled and stole second. He would cross the plate on Ryan McIntyre’s base hit.

The Slammers responded in the second inning, loading the bases with one out. They tied the score when Max Casper reached on an error and took the lead on Chris Epss’s sacrifice fly. The added to their lead with a fourth-inning RBI double from Max Casper, making it 3-1.

The ThunderBolts took over for good in the fourth, scoring four runs. Ryan Soares singled and Davidson Peguero walked and both men scored on a Garrett Carey single. Mike McGuckin followed with another single and Evan Button’s base hit scored Carey. McGuckin was brought home by Kyle Robinson’s base hit.

The Slammers loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh but got just one run, on Grant DeBruin’s double play grounder.

Windy City would add some insurance the following frame, getting an RBI double from Soares, who crossed the plate when Davidson Peguero reached on an error.

Joliet made it interesting once again, scoring two in the eighth. They got two-out RBI hits from Seth Granger and Casper, but left the tying run on base and did not threaten in the ninth.

Jake Fisher (4-6) allowed four runs (two earned) in six innings for the win and Kody McFarland (2-3) gave up five runs in 3.2 innings, taking the loss. Danny Carela threw a perfect ninth for his sixth save.

The ThunderBolts will and Slammers will continue their series on Friday. Travis Tingle (5-3, 4.45) is expected to start for the Bolts against Joliet’s Matt Crim (0-0, 4.15). It will be an action-packed night at Standard Bank Stadium with a Diamond Dig immediately following the game sponsored by J.U.L.I.E. It is also the annual Camp Out Night in which fans are invited to pitch a stakeless tent and spend the night in the outfield. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 7:05 and fans not in attendance can hear the radio broadcast on meridix.com.
