ThunderBolts swept by Evansville

CRESTWOOD, IL – The Evansville otters came from behind to finish off a three-game sweep of the Windy City ThunderBolts, beating the Bolts 3-2 at Standard Bank Stadium Sunday evening.

Windy City (34-38) took a quick lead with a run in the second inning. They snapped a 21-inning scoreless streak as Charley Thurber doubled, moved to third on a groundout and scored on Kyle Wood’s sacrifice fly.

Evansville (41-29) quickly answered with a Chris Breen solo home run in the fourth inning, tying the score.

The ThunderBolts took their second lead of the night when Ransom LaLonde hit his second home run of the year, a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth inning that made the score 2-1.

John Schultz singled to lead off Evansville’s fifth inning. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on Julio Rodriguez’s single. Kaeo Aliviado grounded out to score Schultz and tie the score.

The manufactured the winning run in the seventh. Rodriguez led off with a single and was bunted to second. He moved to third base on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch.

Preston Olson settled in for Evansville after the LaLonde home run, retiring 13 of the final 14 men he faced. The only hitter to reach during that period was Coco Johnson who drew his third walk of the game on a 15-pitch at bat in the eighth.

Olson (5-2) allowed only two hits in his eight innings for the win. Randy McCurry struck out three straight in theninth for the save. Brady Muller (3-7) allowed three runs in seven innings for the loss while Zac Westcott and Brian Loconsole kept the game close with scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

The ThunderBolts hit the road for three games in Traverse City starting on Tuesday. Jake Fisher (8-4, 3.64) will start game one for the Bolts against Traverse City’s Dylan Stoops (7-3, 3.73). First pitch from Wuerfel Park is scheduled for 6:05 and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
