ThunderBolts Trade for former Minnesota Twins Top Prospect….
The Windy City ThunderBolts have announced the acquisition of infielder Jairo Perez in a three-team trade that also involved the Sioux City Explorers and the Kansas City T-Bones, both of the American Association. The ThunderBolts received right-handed pitcher Andy Noga from the Explorers to complete an earlier deal that had sent Tim Alberts to Sioux City, and immediately traded him to Kansas City in exchange for Perez. The 25-year-old Perez brings with him six years of professional experience. A native of Venezuela, he spent more than five years in the Minnesota Twins organization before beginning his independent career in the summer of 2012. Perez primarily spent 2013 as a second baseman in Kansas City, but also has experience playing first, third and the outfield. He is coming off one of the best offensive seasons of his career, in which he hit .309 with 19 home runs and 72 RBIs. All three numbers would have led the 2013 ThunderBolts. Perez, who was once considered one of the Twins’ top prospects, has appeared in 371 career games with a .296 batting average. He has hit 95 career doubles and 48 home runs with 238 RBIs. The ThunderBolts will be the fourth independent organization for Perez, who spent the past year and a half in the American Association with the Wichita Wingnuts, Grand Prairie AirHogs and the T-Bones. He hit .306 with 22 homers and 98 RBIs in his 137 American Association games.
45th ThunderBolts’ player sold to Major League organization…
The Windy City ThunderBolts sold the contract of pitcher Eric Perrault to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Eric is the 45th player in ThunderBolts’ history to be sold to a Major League organization. This is the 4th player that the ThunderBolts have sold to the Diamondbacks. Don’t remember Eric Perrault in a ThunderBolts’ uniform? That is because he was on the club’s roster for only four days. He was signed to a deal on November 11th and sold on November 14th.
Bolts Coaching Staff back for 2014…
After another winning season the Windy City ThunderBolts have announced that the entire coaching staff from last season will be back in 2014. Field Manager Ron Biga, Pitching Coach Brian Smith, and Hitting Coach Pete Pirman will be looking to get the ThunderBolts back to the postseason for the first time since the 2010 season.
Club Administration Notes…
The Windy City ThunderBolts have made some changes to their Front Office staff. General Manager Mike Lucas will be back for the 2014 season. It will be his 11th season overall with the club and his fifth year as General Manager. Lucas is the longest tenured General Manager in ThunderBolts history. Mike VerSchave was promoted to Assistant General Manager in what will be his eighth full-time season with the ThunderBolts. Director of Food & Beverage Steve Hasman has left the organization for other opportunities. Filling Hasman’s void is Marissa Miller, who completed an internship with the ThunderBolts in 2013. Marissa has been named Director of Community Relations and the club is very excited to have her on board!
