Bolts fizzle against Grizzlies 7-4

SAUGET, IL- An offensive explosion from the Windy City ThunderBolts in the top of the first proved to be just a slice of a Grizzlies pie Tuesday night at Grizzlies Bappark as the Bolts dropped the opener of a three game set 7-4.

 

Windy City (26-34) began the ballgame with a leadoff double by Paul Conmoulos. First baseman Micah Yonamine hit his seventh home run of the season, a three-run shot, sparking the Bolts to a 3-0 lead. 

 

The lead lasted less than half an inning. Following an Eric Rivera RBI single, Andrew Penner belted a two-run home run, knotting the score 3-3 through an inning of play. 

 

In the bottom of the second, Abdiel Diaz notched an RBI double to left field giving Gateway (36-23) a 4-3 advantage. 

 

Penner drove home his third run of the night from Penner in the bottom of the third inning. Gateway hitting coach Kyle Gaedale hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third, bringing the Grizzlies lead to 6-3. 

 

Gateway ran away with the game in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single by Jairus Richards, making it 7-3 Grizzlies.

 

Battling back in the top of the eighth, Peyton Isaacson drove in an RBI single to put the Bolts down 7-4.

 

Grizzlies starting pitcher Zac Ryan (3-2) tossed seven innings, surrendering six hits while walking three and striking out five. Ryan pitched his longest outing of the season in the victory. 

 

Adrien Reese (0-4) threw four innings of work for Windy City allowing six earned runs on seven hits, while walking one and striking out four. 

 

The ThunderBolts are back in action Wednesday evening at Grizzlies Ballpark with a 6:45 CT scheduled start. Logan Schmitt (3-2, 3.57) starts for Windy City against Gateway's Lukas Veinbergs (5-3, 6.40). The broadcast can be found through wcthunderbolts.com.
