Otters chew Bolts 9-5

EVANSVILLE, IN- The Windy City ThunderBolts dropped the first game of a three game series against the Evansville Otters Friday night at Bosse Field. 

 

Evansville catcher Brody Tanksley led off the bottom of third inning with a double. Evansville (27-21) second baseman Ethan Skender demolished a two-run home run to left field putting the Otters ahead 2-0. The next batter, Jeffery Baez belted his tenth home run of the year to left field increasing the Otters lead 3-0. 

 

The ThunderBolts broke the goose egg in the top of the sixth inning. Following a lead off walk to Will Riley, Jake Boone blooped a single to right field. Martina the next batter up smashed a double down the left field line, driving in his team leading 28th RBI. Following the Martina RBI single, Issacson hit an opposite field two-run double into left field knotting the score 3-3. Issacson drove in three of the five Windy City runs in the game.

 

Following a Micah Yonmaine single, Otters LHP Hunter Cloke (2-1) immediately relieved Parker Brahms. Paul Coumoulos blasted an RBI single putting Windy City ahead 4-3. 

 

The ThunderBolts lead did not last long. Back to back singles by John Dyer and Noah Myers put the Otters in business in the bottom of the sixth with one out. Signing a contract today, Otters catcher Brody Tanksley knocks his second double of the game, scoring both runners and Evansville reclaimed the lead 6-4 heading into the seventh inning. 

 

The ThunderBolts struck right back in the top of the seventh. With one out Boone and Martina each singled. Issacson once again delivered his third hit of the game and third RBI of the night cutting the Bolts’ deficit to 6-5.

 

A lead off double by Otters’ 2023 All-Star Jomar Reyes came back to haunt the Bolts. Following a ground out that moved Reyes to third, Bolts RHP Sebastian Selway tossed a wild pitch scoring Reyes and the Otters lead 7-5. Skender sailed his second of the game out of the park in the bottom of the eighth inning and Jomar Reyes drove in Jeffery Baez for a commanding 9-5 lead. 

 

In the top of the eightH inning, another 2023 All Star appeared in the game for Evansville. Leoni De La Cruz walked Dan Robinson and hit Will Riley and with two outs was removed from the game. Jake Polancic saved the game striking out Boone with runners at first and second in the bottom of the eighth, and threw a scoreless ninth inning to wrap up the win for the Otters. 

 

Windy City (21-28) starting pitcher Kenny Mathews (1-5) threw 5.1 innings surrendering six earned runs over twelve hits, while walking none and striking out eight.

 

Evansville starter Parker Brahms threw 5.1 innings, surrendering 3 earned runs and six hits while walking two and striking out three. Hunter Kloke earned the win, throwing 1.2 IP allowing three hits and one run, while striking out two.

 

The ThunderBolts are back in action tomorrow night against the Evansville Otters for a 6:35 CT first pitch at Bosse Field. Windy City all star Garrett Christman (1.97 ERA) vs Evansville RHP (Austin Gossmann (4.43 ERA).
