Bolts bats held in check in series loss

CRESTWOOD, IL – The Windy City Thunderbolts (1-2) fell 5-1 to the Schaumburg Boomers (2-1) to drop two of the first three in the opening series of the 2023 campaign Saturday evening at Ozinga Field.

The first run was not scored until the bottom of the sixth. Bolts’ Shortstop Jake Boone began the inning with a lead off double and Centerfielder Bren Spillane drove Boone in with a base hit. Spillane has driven in at least one run in each game of the season so far.

ThunderBolts’ starting pitcher Cole Bellair was excellent in his first outing of the 2023 season. Bellair surrendered three hits and two earned runs while striking out two. Both earned runs came in the top off the seventh inning, when Schaumburg grasped the lead for good. Chase Dawson led off that frame with a double and RBIs from Will Prater and Brett Milazzo made it 2-1.

Schaumburg added three more runs in the ninth to pull away. The Boomers’ trio of Miles Simington, Chase Dawson, and Brett Milazzo each had two hits in the contest. 

Despite the strong outing, Bellair (0-1) took the loss. Miguel Reyes allowed just three hits over his six innings and earned his first win of the year.

The ThunderBolts will take the next two days off before returning to action on Tuesday night against the Trois-Riviéres Aigles. It’s the first Value Tuesday of the year as all tickets and hot dogs will be just $2. Henry Omaña (1-0, 3.38) is slated to make the start for the Bolts in game one of the three-game set. First pitch from Ozinga Field is scheduled for 6:35 and the broadcast can be found through wcthunderbolts.com.
