Bolts Fall Behind Early, Can’t Recover

BOX SCORE

Florence, KY – The Windy City ThunderBolts lost the middle portion of a three-game set against the Florence Y’alls, 10-6, on Saturday Night at Thomas More Stadium. The Bolts (13-12) stranded 13 runners on base.

Florence (8-17) built a six-run lead before the Bolts could find the scoreboard. Joe Lytle and Brennan Price hit two-run homers for the Y’alls.

After leaving seven runners on base in the opening five innings, the Bolts broke through in the sixth inning. Payton Robertson’s sacrifice fly plated the first run. Brynn Martinez’s RBI single drove in the second tally.

Florence answered in the sixth with an Axel Johnson sacrifice fly. The Bolts cut the deficit to 7-3 with Dan Robinson’s RBI double in the eighth inning. But, once again, Florence responded with runs in the home half. A three-run eighth pushed the Y’alls edge to 10-3.

Brynn Martinez hit his second homer of the series in the top of the ninth, a three-run shot, to conclude the scoring.

Bolts starting pitcher Tyler Thornton (2-4) allowed seven runs in 5.1 innings and took the loss. Karl Craigie (1-1) earned the win, tossing an inning out of the bullpen for Florence.

The ThunderBolts play the rubber game of the three-game series at Florence Sunday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 12:07 PM CDT. The broadcast can be found at wcthunderbolts.com.
