Bolts win second straight over Quebec

CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts rebounded after a shaky start, scoring six of the final eight runs in their second straight win over Equipe Quebec, 6-3, in front of 2,972 fans at Ozinga Field Saturday night.

Before they got their first chance at bat, the ThunderBolts (32-38) found themselves in a hole. Quebec (31-38) got their second batter, L.P. Pelletier on base thanks to a dropped third strike. He stole second and made it to third on an error. Without the benefit of a hit, he scored on a Raphael Gladu groundout.

The score remained 1-0 until the fourth inning. Jairus Richards hit a leadoff single and Dan Robinson followed with a walk. Both men scored on a Rob Weissheier double that gave the Bolts a lead that they held for the rest of the game.

They added a run in the fifth, when Zac Taylor tripled and scored on a Payton Robertson sacrifice fly. In the sixth inning, after Quebec had tightened the score by a run, Robinson singled, Weissheier doubled and Peyton Isaacson brought them both home on a base hit that made the score 5-2.

Donivan Williams appeared to put the game away with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth that put the ThunderBolts ahead by four, but Quebec fought in the ninth. Thanks to a single, a hit by pitch and two walks, they got another run on the board and had the bases loaded with only one out. That’s when Brayden Bonner came out of the bullpen and struck out back-to-back batters to end the game.

Bryan Ketchie (2-5) allowed one earned run in 5.2 innings for the win and Bret Clarke (0-1) took the loss after throwing 4.1 innings and giving up three runs. For Bonner, it was the second save in as many appearances.

The ThunderBolts wrap up their brief home stand and go for a sweep of Quebec on Sunday afternoon. Garrett Christman makes his team debut on the mound against Miguel Cienfuegos (6-6, 4.42). Links to tickets, audio and video broadcasts can be found at wcthunderbolts.com.
