Robertson and Wiley guide Bolts to 1-0 win

CRESTWOOD, IL – Logan Wiley pitched eight shutout innings and Payton Robertson hit a solo home run as the ThunderBolts beat Equipe Quebec 1-0 in the opener of a three-game series at Ozinga Field Friday night.

During the early innings of the pitchers’ duel, Quebec (31-37) had more scoring chances than the ThunderBolts (31-38), who didn’t have a hit through the first four frames.

Quebec had two hits in the first and at least one baserunner in each of the first four innings. However, during that stretch, they went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Zac Taylor hit a leadoff double for the ThunderBolts’ first hit in the fifth, but he was caught stealing third to stifle the threat.

Robertson led off the sixth inning with a long drive to left field for his third home run in the last seven games that gave the home team a 1-0 edge.

Then it was up to Wiley to work through trouble in the seventh and eighth. Quebec loaded the bases with one out in the seventh before popping out twice in a row. In the eighth, they put men at first and second with no outs but Wiley got out of the inning with a double play to keep the one-run lead.

Ryan Hare pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to wrap up the win for his first career save.

Wiley improved to 5-1 with the win and Nick Horvath (1-7) allowed only one run on two hits but took the tough-luck loss.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday night. Bryan Ketchie (1-5, 6.04) gets the start for the ThunderBolts against Quebec’s Bret Clark (0-0, 16.20). The Elvis Night festivities at Ozinga Field kick off with a pregame concert from John “Elvis” Lyons at 4:15 and the game will be followed by a fireworks show.
