ThunderBolts pile on early in 7-3 win

Bolts 7 Crushers 3

AVON, OH – Jake Fisher picked up his tenth win of the year, allowing one run in 7.1 innings and the ThunderBolts offense piled up seven runs on 13 hits as they defeated the Lake Erie Crushers 7-3 at Sprenger Stadium Wednesday night.

Jordan Dean hit a solo homer in the first inning to give the Crushers (43-49) what would be their only lead of the game.

The ThunderBolts (49-43) immediately answered, scoring two runs without the benefit of a hit in the second inning. Juan Caballero issued five walks in the inning.

They used their bats to score another run in the third. Corey Bass doubled and Zack Jones singled to put runners at the corners before Ryan Budnick’s sacrifice fly made it 3-1. Tim Zier singled in front of a two-run Larry Balkwill homer in the fourth, his 20th home run this year.

Fisher held the Crushers bats at bay despite just one perfect inning. He pitched out of two bases loaded jams to keep the ThunderBolts ahead.

They added two insurance runs in the ninth. Budnick and Blair Beck singled to start the inning. They scored on a Keenyn Walker double and a Coco Johnson single, respectively.

The insurance proved beneficial as Lake Erie made a run in the ninth. RBI singles from LJ Kalawaia and Sean Hurley made it a four-run game with two on base but Josh Glick struck out Conner Simonetti to end the game.

Fisher (10-7) tied the ThunderBolts franchise wins record with the 29th of his career. He struck out nine and allowed seven hits. Caballero took the loss. He walked seven batters and allowed five runs over four innings.

The series will wrap up with game three on Thursday night. Cay Chapman (4-6, 4.18) makes the start for the ThunderBolts. First pitch from Sprenger Stadium is scheduled for 5:35 and the broadcast can be heard through wcthunderbolts.com.
