ThunderBolts shutout in finale against Washington

Things 8 Bolts 0

CRESTWOOD, IL – The Washington Wild Things jumped out to a six-run lead in the first two-innings and dealt the ThunderBolts an 8-0 loss in the rubber match of their series at Standard Bank Stadium Sunday evening.

James Harris took the third pitch of the game over the wall to put Washington (47-42) ahead right off the bat. The Wild Things added a five-spot in the second. Kyle Pollock and Mike Hill walked and both scored on a Kyle Reese single. Walks continued to be a problem for Bolts starter Patrick Ledet, who put Rashad Brown on before a Bralin Jackson homer made it 6-0.

The ThunderBolts (48-42) threatened on offense in the first two innings but did not score. They put runners at the corners with one out in the first and men at first and second with one out in the second but could not capitalize.

Washington tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning as Kane Sweeney drew a base on balls and scored in front of Hector Roa on a two-run homer, the Wild Things’ third of the game.

The Bolts had five baserunners over the final three innings but were unable to break up the shutout.

Chase Cunningham (10-3) lowered his ERA in four starts against the ThunderBolts to 0.61 with seven shutout innings as he became the second ten-win pitcher in the Frontier League. Patrick Ledet (1-2) lasted only two innings in his second professional start. He allowed six runs on four walks and three hits.

After the loss, the ThunderBolts maintain possession of the final playoff spot, a half game ahead of Washington. The Bolts have six games remaining, beginning with the start of a three-game series on Tuesday night at Lake Erie. Will Landsheft (6-9, 4.90) will get the game one start for the Bolts at Sprenger Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 and the broadcast can be heard through wcthunderbolts.com.
