Fisher pitches ThunderBolts to 3-0 win

Bolts 3 Miners 0

CRESTWOOD, IL – Jake Fisher threw eight shutout innings and the ThunderBolts defeated the Southern Illinois Miners 3-0 in front of a crowd of 3,398 at Standard Bank Stadium Saturday night.

Chris Washington matched Fisher with a strong start for Southern Illinois (21-29) but the ThunderBolts (27-22) struck first in the bottom of the second inning. Corey Bass doubled with one out and scored on a Riley Krane single.

The one run would prove to be enough for the Bolts as Fisher only once allowed a runner to reach third base. The Miners put men at the corners with two outs in the sixth inning but Anthony Critelli flew out to left to end the threat.

The Bolts added an insurance run in the seventh, following the same script that got them their first run. Bass doubled, Krane singled and a Southern Illinois error allowed Bass to score from second on the play.

Keenyn Walker reached on an error in the eighth inning in front of Tim Zier, who blooped a single to right field. Walker, who was running with the pitch, scored all the way from first on the base hit to make it a 3-0 game.

Fisher (4-4) retired six of the final seven hitters he faced as he allowed just five singles and two walks over his eight innings. He struck out five and extended his shutout streak to 16 innings.

Washington (1-1) took the loss despite a complete game. He allowed three runs (two earned) in eight innings.

Brian Loconsole picked up his league-leading 18th save with a scoreless ninth.

The ThunderBolts and Miners conclude their three-game series with the rubber game Sunday night. Clay Chapman (2-4, 3.45) gets the game three start for the Bolts. First pitch from Standard Bank Stadium is set for 5:05 and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
