Pitching, timely hitting guide Bolts to 4-2 win

Bolts 4 Bums 2

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Corey Bass broke a tie in the top of the ninth inning to back up a complete game from Jake Fisher as the ThunderBolts defeated the Traverse City Beach Bums 4-2 at Wuerfel Park Saturday night.

Fisher walked the first batter of the game on four pitches, his only walk of the game, and Will Kengor followed with a two-run homer to put Traverse City (18-25) ahead 2-0. Following his shaky first inning, though, Fisher allowed only two hits and faced one over the minimum the rest of the way.

The ThunderBolts (24-20) cut their deficit in half in the top of the second as Riley Krane singled and moved to third on a Bass base hit. Krane scored on Ransom LaLonde’s groundout.

Kyle Wood went deep with two outs in the third, his fourth home run of the year, tying the score 2-2.

Neither team had a base runner in the middle innings and the Bolts did not threaten again until the ninth when they started a rally with two outs. Krane and Tim Zier each walked to put two on with two out in front of Bass, who picked up his first two RBIs since rejoining the ThunderBolts this weekend, giving Windy City its first lead of the night.

Fisher set the side down in order in the ninth to wrap up the win. He allowed only four hits in the game and struck out eight. Fisher (3-4) has 18 strikeouts to only one walk over his last two starts.

Devin Over (2-1) pitched the final two innings for Traverse City and allowed the Bass double to take his first professional loss.

The ThunderBolts and Beach Bums wrap up their three-game series on Sunday evening. Clay Chapman (1-4, 3.48) will get the game three start for the Bolts against Traverse City’s Reinaldo Lopez (1-4, 3.38). First pitch from Wuerfel Park is set for 4:05 and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
