Bolts drop Boomers in eleventh

Bolts 5 Boomers 2

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Keenyn Walker’s three-run double in the top of the 11th inning broke a 2-2 tie and delivered the ThunderBolts a 5-2 win over the Schaumburg Boomers at Boomers Stadium Saturday night.

Jake Fisher of the ThunderBolts (13-7) and Conrad Wozniak of the Boomers (14-6) were locked up in a pitchers’ duel as neither pitcher gave up a run in the first six innings. Fisher was challenged only once, when the Boomers put a man at third base with one out in the sixth. He got back-to-back groundouts to end the threat.

The Bolts finally broke through against the Schaumburg bullpen in the eighth. Will Krug walked and Coco Johnson singled to put runners at the corners. Kyle Wood brought home Krug on a squeeze bunt and Blair Beck tripled home Johnson to give the ThunderBolts a 2-0 lead.

Schaumburg tied it up in the bottom of the inning, putting two men on base and chasing Fisher from the contest. Seth Spivey came up with two outs and doubled in both runners to tie the score.

The Boomers loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth but Tyler Murphy pitched out of the jam to head to extra innings.

Jake Joyce walked three ThunderBolts in the tenth to load the bases but did not allow a run. He did not get out of the 11th unscathed as the bases were again loaded on walks before Walker stepped up with the bases clearing double.

Brian Loconsole pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to finish the win and earn his eighth save.

Murphy (1-0) threw two innings for the win and Joyce (1-2) took the loss.

The ThunderBolts take and Boomers conclude their three-game set on Sunday. Game three will feature a start from Clay Chapman (0-2, 2.42) for the Bolts against Schaumburg’s Lars Liguori (1-0, 3.17). First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 and the game broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
