Bolts split a pair with Normal

Bolts 5, 3 Belters 2, 5

CRESTWOOD, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts split a matinee doubleheader with the Normal CornBelters at Standard Bank Stadium on Wednesday. They won the opener 5-2 before dropping game two 5-3 in ten innings.

The CornBelters (5-6) struck first in the early game, going ahead 1-0 before an Austin Darby RBI single tied the score in the third inning. Normal scored again in the fourth but Ransom LaLonde’s RBI double in the bottom of the inning tied the score again.

The tie was broken in the fifth when the Bolts (6-5) loaded the bases and Blair Beck scored on a wild pitch. LaLonde followed with a two-run single to make the final 5-2.

Jake Fisher (1-0) allowed two runs in five innings for the win. Bob Wheatley (1-1) took the loss, allowing three runs in 4.1 innings. Brian Loconsole picked up his fourth save.

Game two was a pitcher’s duel as neither team scored through the first five innings.

Normal broke through tin the sixth on a Miguel Torres RBI double but the ThunderBolts answered almost immediately. Darby walked to lead off the bottom of the inning and Keenyn Walker tripled him in. Walker scored on a Coco Johnson sacrifice fly.

The CornBelters sent it to extra innings when Nolan Meadows took a bases loaded walk in the seventh to tie the score at two.

Both teams scored a run in the ninth inning. With the international tiebreaker rule in effect, each team scored their runner that began the inning at second base.

Normal added two more runs in the tenth. Ty Morris advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on another one. Craig Lepre walked and later came in to score on a balk.

Shawn Blackwell (3-0) threw three scoreless innings of relief for the win and Chris Chigas (0-3) took the loss.

The ThunderBolts and CornBelters battle in their rubber match on Thursday night. In the first White Castle Wrestling Thursday of the year, Cody Rhodes will fight Abyss after the game. On the field, Zac Westcott (1-0, 1.93) will oppose Normal’s Corey Kimes (0-1, 7.71). First pitch from Standard Bank Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 and the game broadcast can be heard through wcthunderbolts.com.
