ThunderBolts shutout Wild Things

Bolts 2 Things 0

CRESTWOOD, IL – Jake Stolley and three ThunderBolts relievers combined to hold the Washington Wild Things to just three hits as the Bolts defeated Washington 2-0 at Standard Bank Stadium Wednesday night.

The ThunderBolts (40-51) got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning. Kyle Wood hit his third home run of the year to go ahead 1-0.

Washington (45-46) had a great scoring chance the previous half inning when they loaded the bases on a double and two walks with only one out. Stolley struck out Kyle Pollock and got Austin Wobrock to ground out to end the threat.

Washington did not threaten again until the sixth as Stolley retired 11 of 12 men. In the top of the sixth inning, though, the Wild Things put men at first and second with one out before Ransom LaLonde made a leaping catch to rob Jimmy Yezzo and flipped to second to complete a double play.

The ThunderBolts had secured the game’s final run in the fifth when Johnny Eierman drew a leadoff walk. He moved to third on a Larry Balkwill single and scored on a Blair Beck double play.

Stolley (2-1) picked up the win, going a career-high six innings with a career-high seven strikeouts. Tyler Murphy, Cameron Giannini and Brian Loconsole combined to allow just one hit over the final three innings and retired the last eight Washington hitters. Loconsole picked up his eighth save.

Matt Fraudin (7-8) threw seven strong innings, allowing only two runs on seven hits but took the loss.

The ThunderBolts wrap up their home schedule with game three against the Wild Things on Thursday. Clay Chapman (8-7, 3.53) will make his final start of the year against Washington’s Brandon Bixler (1-1, 2.57). Following the game, there will be a Pro Wrestling Blitz show featuring WWE superstar Hornswaggle. First pitch from Standard Bank Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
