Big inning spurs ThunderBolts to victory

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The ThunderBolts broke a 2-2 tie with a seven-run fourth inning on their way to an 11-2 victory over the Traverse City Beach Bums at Wuerfel Park Sunday night.

The ThunderBolts (35-49) got the scoring started with single runs in each of the first two innings. Max White had an RBI single in the first and Coco Johnson hit one in the second.

Traverse City (48-34) tied the score in the bottom of the second inning. Brandon Jacobs hit an RBI double and scored on a Yazy Arbelo groundout.

The tie did not last long as the Bolts reclaimed the lead and ran away in the top of the fourth. They sent 11 men to the plate and took a 9-2 lead with seven runs scoring. Austin Gallagher came up with the bases loaded and one out and brought home the first two runs of the inning on a single. White followed with an RBI double and Ransom LaLonde doubled home two more runs to make the score 7-2. A Jacob Tanis sacrifice fly and Alex Chittenden RBI single finished the scoring in the fourth.

Cody Keefer doubled home Mike Torres in the fifth inning to give the ThunderBolts a 10-2 lead and LaLonde finished the scoring later that inning with a run-scoring single.

Austin Wright (5-10) allowed only five hits and no walks in his six innings as he earned the win and Rob Blanc (1-5) took the loss, giving up five runs in 3.1 innings.

The ThunderBolts take Monday off before returning to action on Tuesday as they begin their final homestand of the year. The River City Rascals will begin a three-game series at Standard Bank Stadium on Tuesday night at 7:05. Danny Jimenez (3-8, 4.93) will start game one of the series for the ThunderBolts. As every Tuesday, it will be $2.00 tickets for the opening of the homestand. Fans not in attendance can listen to the broadcast on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
