Bolts knock off Crushers with late rally

Bolts 7 Crushers 2

CRESTWOOD, IL – Jake Fisher threw his second complete game of the season and the ThunderBolts scored seven runs over the final three innings to defeat the Lake Erie Crushers in a one hour fifty-nine minute game at Standard Bank Stadium Sunday evening.

Both pitchers started strong as the ThunderBolts (33-44) had only one baserunner through five innings against Brad Zambron.

Fisher ran into his first trouble in the third. He walked the leadoff hitter, Daniel Aldrich, who stood at second with two outs. Trevor Stevens doubled him home to make it 1-0 Lake Erie.

The Crushers (33-44) got back on the board in similar fashion in the sixth. This time Stevens drew the leadoff walk and scored on a Jose Barrazza base hit.

The ThunderBolts got the offense moving in the bottom of the sixth. Their first two batters reached as Alex Chittenden was hit by a pitch and Tyler Clark made it to first base on an error. With one out, Mike Torres singled home Chittenden. After Austin Gallagher popped out, Zambron was removed and against Ryan Connolly, Max White put the ThunderBolts ahead 4-2 on a three-run homer.

They added insurance on two more late home runs. Jacob Tanis hit a solo shot in the seventh and Gallagher went deep for two runs in the eighth.

Fisher (4-6) allowed six hits and two walks and struck out seven in the victory. Zambron (3-5) took the loss despite allowing only one earned run (three total) in 5.2 innings.

The ThunderBolts will take Monday off before returning to action on Tuesday as they begin a seven-game road trip at Washington. Game one of the three-game series will see Austin Wright (4-9, 4.30) take the mound for Windy City against the Wild Things’ Matt Fraudin (1-1, 2.70). First pitch from Consol Energy Park Tuesday night is scheduled for 6:05 and the broadcast can be heard at wcthunderbolts.com.
