Bolts lose fourth straight as River City sweeps

Rascals 8 Bolts 2

O’FALLON, MO – The ThunderBolts dropped their fourth straight contest Sunday evening as the River City Rascals took an early lead at T.R. Hughes Ballpark and extended it late for an 8-2 final.

River City (40-32) got on the board in the second inning when Taylor Ard was hit by a pitch. He made it around to third base with one out before Josh Ludy brought him home on a groundout.

Ard made the score 3-0 the next inning when Brian Hansen reached on an infield single in front of his two-run homer.

The ThunderBolts (29-32) generated all of their offense in the fourth inning. With one out, Marquis Riley hit a solo home run and two batters later, Tyler Clark did the same. It was the second home run of the year for both hitters.

It remained 3-2 until the sixth. Ard and Danny Canela each singled and stood at the corners with two outs. When Canela took off for second, Clark’s throw sailed to center field and Ard scores. Johnny Morales followed with a single to score Canela and make the score 5-2.

Following two walks in the seventh inning, Ard picked up his third hit of the game, an RBI single. The Rascals added their final two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Zach Kometani hit a leadoff single before Ludy went deep.

Lucas Laster (3-3) won the game for the Rascals, pitching around some early wildness to allow just two runs in seven innings. Travis Tingle (5-6) allowed five runs (three earned) as he had his three-game win streak snapped in the loss.

The ThunderBolts will take Monday off before returning to action on Tuesday in Schaumburg. Jake Fisher (5-5, 2.87) takes the hill for Windy City in the series opener against the Boomers’ Taylor Thurber (2-3, 4.29). First pitch from Boomers Stadium is scheduled for 6:30 and the broadcast can be heard on wcthunderbolts.com.
