Bolts 7 Rascals 3

CRESTWOOD, IL – For the first time in five games, the ThunderBolts failed to score ten runs, but a six-run fourth inning was enough to lead them to a 7-3 win over the River City Rascals at Standard Bank Stadium Friday night.

The ThunderBolts (26-37) took the early lead on a Max White sacrifice fly in the first. Michael Torres had walked and moved to third on an Austin Gallagher double.

The Rascals (34-30) tied the score in the top of the fourth on a Jackson Slaid solo home run. Josh Ludy tried to give his team the lead later in the inning but White reached over the wall to rob what would have been another home run.

In the bottom of the inning, the Bolts bats broke through. Marquis Riley singled and Alex Chittenden walked before Tyler Clark reached on an error to load the bases. Coco Johnson knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly to give the ThunderBolts the lead back. After the bases were reloaded on a walk, Gallagher singled home another run. White’s groundout scored Clark to make it 4-1 and Cody Keefer’s groundball led to a throwing error that allowed two more runs to score. Ransom LaLonde doubled home Keefer to put the Bolts up by six.

River City got their first four batters on base in the sixth with RBI singles coming from Danny Canela and Slaid. But the Windy City bullpen came on to throw four shutout frames to finish the win.

Austin Wright (4-8) allowed three runs in five-plus innings, taking the win while Clay Smith (0-2) took the loss, giving up four runs in 3.1 innings.
