ThunderBolts shutout in finale at Florence

Freedom 3 Bolts 0

FLORENCE, KY – Casey Henn struck out 12 ThunderBolts in 7.2 shutout innings as the ThunderBolts fell to the Florence Freedom 3-0.

The Freedom got all the offense they would need when they got on the board in the bottom of the first thanks to Zak Blair and Sam Eberle picking up back-to-back one out hits. Blair scored on a Jacob Tanis groundout.

The next two Florence runs came from power ball. Buddy Sosnoskie led off the fourth with a solo home run and Tanis did the same to lead off the fifth to expand the lead to 3-0.

The ThunderBolts struggled for opportunities against Henn. They did not have a runner in scoring position until the seventh inning and they managed just four hits total, all singles, off of Henn in 7.2 innings.

The Bolts had their best chance in the eighth. With a Michael Torres walk and Max White single, they had two aboard with two outs, but Pete Levitt came out of the ‘pen and struck out Ryan Soares to end the threat.

Ed Kohout pitched a scoreless ninth for the Freedom, striking out two in the save. That gave the Florence pitching staff 15 strikeouts for the game, a season-high for Windy City hitters.

Henn (8-5) picked up his third straight win while Josh Spence (1-9) allowed three runs in six innings with eight strikeouts to only one walk, but took the loss.

The ThunderBolts return home on Friday to begin a three-game series against the Joliet Slammers. Hein Robb (0-2, 9.48) is slated to get the start for Windy City against Joliet’s Kody McFarland (3-4, 4.50). It is Budweiser Fill ‘R Up Friday at Standard Bank Stadium with$1.25 draft and $2.25 bottled domestic beer. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 and those not in attendance can hear the broadcast on meridix.com.
