Big inning dooms ThunderBolts in 9-3 loss

Rascals 9 Bolts 3

CRESTWOOD, IL – The River City Rascals scored six runs in the fourth inning to erase an early ThunderBolts lead on their way to a win 9-3 over the Bolts at Standard Bank Stadium Wednesday night.

The ThunderBolts got on the board in the first inning when Ty Stetson led off with a walk and eventually was brought home on Kyle Robinson’s sacrifice fly.

They added a run in the second, again with help from a leadoff walk. Brauer reached first base to start the frame and Matt Scioscia singled him to third. Brauer scored on Doug Joyce’s RBI single.

The Rascals scored their first run in the top of the third. Hector Crespo doubled and two batters later, Bryan Aanderud singled him home.

Then, River City broke through in the fourth. They sent 11 men to the plate and collected five hits in the rally. Curran Redal singled but still stood at first base with two outs before seven straight men reached base. With the bases loaded, Aanderud started the scoring with a two-run single. Taylor Ard followed with an RBI base hit of his own before Saxon Butler brought home two more runs on a double. Butler finished the scoring, crossing the plate when Josh Ludy reached on an error. By the end of the inning, the Rascals had gone on top 7-3.

The ThunderBolts tried to get back into the game in the sixth. They loaded the bases with one out, but scored just one run. Kyle Robinson, who had doubled, scored on a wild pitch.

The Rascals finalized the score in the seventh, scoring twice on four walks and an RBI single from Ard.

Cory Caruso (1-2) allowed three runs in 5.1 innings for the win and Jake Fisher (1-3) gave up six earned runs over four innings for the loss.

The ThunderBolts will try to avoid a Rascals sweep on Thursday evening as the series concludes at 7:05. Eli Anderson will make his pro debut for the Bolts and be opposed by Ray Hanson (0-2, 5.79). Blitz Pro Wrestling will be holding a show on the concourse after the Thursday game at Standard Bank Stadium and WWE Hall of Famer Hacksaw Jim Duggan will be present during the game to sign autographs.
