Bolts bats heat up in 11-4 win

Bolts 11 Greys 4

CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts scored five runs in the second inning Saturday night and never trailed thereafter on their way to a 2-0 record with their second straight win over the Frontier Greys at Standard bank Stadium.

Windy City trailed early after the Greys got an RBI single from Logan Pierce in the first and a run-scoring base hit from Ray Ortega in the second.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second, the Bolts got some help from the Greys’ defense. Ryan McIntyre led off with a double, the first of his four hits and moved to third on an error. After Kyle Robinson walked and stole a base, Max White knocked them both in on his first career hit, an RBI single. Andrew Brauer walked and Doug Joyce reached on an error to load the bases for Evan Button, who flew out to center. Brauer scored on the sacrifice fly and a throwing error allowed the other two runners to score as well, making it 5-2.

Windy City added to their lead the following inning, when Ryan Soares doubled and McIntyre singled him in. He scored on another White single. Kyle Robinson’s RBI base hit in the fifth made it 8-2.

The Greys chipped away, scoring once in the seventh on a Joe Rapp triple and once in the eighth on a Jon Minucci home run, but the Bolts put the game away in the bottom of the eighth.

They batted around and scored three runs thanks to hits from McIntyre, Robinson and Brauer and RBIs from White and Brauer. That made the final score 11-4.

Jake Fisher (1-0) allowed two runs over six innings for his first ThunderBolts win and Clint Wright (0-1) took the loss, allowing seven runs (four earned) over four innings.

The ThunderBolts will go for a sweep of the Greys on Sunday afternoon. Markus Solbach will make the start for Windy City and he will be opposed by Greys right-hander Patrick Lowery. The game will begin at 2:05 CDT on Standard Bank Sunday in Crestwood. Players will offer postgame autographs and families can play catch in the outfield after the game. Fans not in attendance can listen to the broadcast on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
