Biography:
2023 is Junior Martina's first year with the Windy City ThunderBolts and his sixth as a professional. He signed as a free agent on January 25, 2023. Junior's pro career can be traced back to 2018, when he was a rookie with DSS of the Dutch Major League. Through parts of two seasons in the Netherlands, he played 29 games and hit .259. He began his American pro career in 2019, when he was a 16th round selection of the Washington Nationals in the Amateur Entry Draft. In four years with the Nationals, he played at four different levels, peaking at Triple-A in 2022. Overall, he was a .264 hitter with a .345 on-base percentage in 179 games.
Martina spent two years at Western Oklahoma State College, where he hit a combined .398 with 26 home runs and 25 stolen bases over 107 games. He also played for the Netherlands national team in the 2021 European Championships. He hit .333 over the course of the tournament as the Netherlands won the gold medal. |
