Matt Morgan is in his second season with the ThunderBolts and seventh as a professional in 2023. He signed as a free agent on July 12, 2022 after beginning the '22 season and playing 27 games with the Cleburne Railroaders of the American Association. He was the primary catcher for the Bolts down the stretch, appearing in 34 games and hitting five home runs.
Morgan's pro career began in 2014, when he was a fourth round selection of the Toronto Blue Jays in the Amateur Entry Draft. He spent five seasons in the Blue Jays' system, appearing in 177 total games. He was a career .150 hitter with a .256 on-base percentage and nine home runs while playing at four different levels. He peaked at Class A Lansing in both 2017 and 2018. Prior to his time with the Blue Jays, he attended Thorsby High School in Thorsby, Alabama.
