Bolts' bats supply the power in 6-1 win

CRESTWOOD, IL – A power outage shortened the game Thursday night, but the ThunderBolts did enough damage in six innings to take out the Normal CornBelters 6-1 at Standard Bank Stadium.
For the fifth straight game, the ThunderBolts scored a first-inning run and for the fifth straight time, Devin Shepherd provided the RBI. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Shepherd flew out to right, allowing Brandon Anderson to score from third. That was the only run the Bolts got in the first but they crossed the plate again in the second inning. This time, with Chad Cregar at third base, it was Mike Torres who provided the RBI hit.
They added two more in the third when a Shepherd single and Ryan Basham walk put two men on for Larry Pempek. Pempek singled home one run and an error on center fielder Alvaro Ramirez brought Basham home as well.
An error led to a fourth-inning run as well as Brandon Anderson reached on second baseman Frank Martinez’s gaffe and eventually scored on a wild pitch, making it 5-0.
Bryant Cotton started for the ThunderBolts and his first four innings were excellent. He allowed just two singles and no runs, but his aim faltered in the fifth. He walked two and gave up a single to load the bases, when Mike Mobbs was the third recipient of four balls, knocking in the first Normal run. Cotton settled down, though, and got the next three outs without allowing a run, holding the score at 5-1.
Windy City added one more run in the sixth when Pempek tripled and Nick Kuroczko singled him in.
As soon as the inning concluded, the tarp was placed on the field as the lightning that had been flashing beyond the outfield wall turned into a storm at Standard Bank Stadium. A power outage caused a forty-minute delay before the game was finally called after six innings.
Cotton was the winner (3-2) and Pritchett was the loser (4-2).
The series concludes Friday night at 7:05. Dustin Williams (5-2) gets the start for the Bolts against Normal’s Brett Lester (4-1). Friday night is Budweiser Fill ‘R Up Friday, meaning $1.00 domestic draft beer at Standard Bank Stadium. The game can be heard on Sportsjuice.com.
