Ramon, Hawke rip Rockford, 9-4

CRESTWOOD -- The Windy City ThunderBolts (17-15) kept the good times rolling with another victory over the Rockford RiverHawks (15-17), a 9-4 win on Monday night in front of 1,839 fans at Standard Bank Stadium.

Windy City got all the runs they would need in the second inning with a five-spot in the frame. Danny Sawyer started the scoring with an RBI fielder's choice, but reached first due to an error by Rockford shortstop Jono Brooks. One out later, Corey Stang came in from third on a wild pitch before Mike Coles delivered a two-run double down the right field line. Wes Long capped the scoring with an RBI-single up the middle.

Phil Hawke stretched his hitting streak to ten games in the third with his sixth home run of the year, a shot down the right field line. It was his third homer in as many games. Windy City tacked on three more in the fourth, highlighted by Hawke's two-run single to left field.

Amos Ramon (2-1) earned the victory going 6.0 innings giving up one run on five hits while striking out two. Jason Lowey earned his second save of the year coming into the eighth inning with two outs and the bases loaded with the score 9-4. After Aaron Davis was picked off of third base by catcher Danny Sawyer, Joe Anthonson reached first via an error to re-load the bases. Lowey then struck out pinch-hitter Scott Talbert looking to end the threat.

Jim Paduch (3-3) took the loss lasting only 3.2 innings giving up all nine runs, four earned, on eight hits while striking out five.

The 'Bolts and 'Hawks will conclude their three-game set on Tuesday evening at 7:05 as Windy City goes for the sweep. The matchup will feature LHP Jason James (1-3, 3.45) for Rockford against RHP Dallas Sims (1-0, 5.23) for Windy City.
