Trois-Riviéres pulls away to even series with ThunderBolts

BOX SCORE

CRESTWOOD, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts (2-3) fell to the Trois-Riviéres Aigles (2-3) 14-2 Wednesday afternoon at Ozinga Field.

On a delightful morning in front of over 2,000 screaming young fans and students from the Chicagoland area, the Aigles took care of business from the first inning into the afternoon.

Trois-Riviéres got off to a hot start scoring one run in the first inning and two in the second inning to jump out to a 3-0 advantage.

Windy City fought back in the bottom of the third.  With two outs, shortstop Jake Boone singled to left field. After a walk to Bren Spillane and a wild pitch advancing the runners into scoring position, Dan Robinson singled in the only ThunderBolt runs of the afternoon, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

Trois-Riviéres took over the rest of the day, sending 12 men to the plate in the top of the fourth inning, and potting an additional five runs throughout the remainder of the ballgame.

All but two Aigles had at least one hit in the contest, and the trio of Juan Kelly, Nate Scantlin, and Malik Williams each registered three hits a piece in the victory.

Windy City starting pitcher Kenny Mathews went 3.1 innings, allowing seven earned runs with five strikeouts, recording his first loss of the season (0-1). Southpaw Adrien Reese tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball and Derrick Edington tossed a scoreless inning to finish the game on a positive note heading into the series finale.

The rubber match will be played on the second straight School Day with another 10:35 am start.  Cole Bellair (0-1, 2.84) makes his second start of the year for the ThunderBolts and Trois-Riviéres counters with Tucker Smith (0-1, 1.50). The broadcast can be found through wcthunderbolts.com.
