Bolts Offense Explodes to Blowout Y’alls

Florence, KY – The Windy City ThunderBolts hit five homers and scored a season-high in runs in an 18-9 win over the Florence Y’alls on Friday night. It was the first time this season the Bolts won a game by more than three runs.

The first of the Bolts (13-11) five homers started the scoring in the second inning. Jace Mercer hit a two-run shot. Later in the inning, Jake Vander Wal recorded a two-run homer to make it 4-0. In the third inning, Mercer did it again, belting a two-run round tripper, extending the lead to 6-0.

Florence battled back in the third inning, scoring four times, highlighted by Joe Lytle’s three-run homer. However, the Bolts responded with a five-run fourth inning to stretch the lead back to 11-4.

The biggest inning of the night came in the seventh, when the Bolts hit two more homers. Payton Robertson hit a grand slam, then Brynn Martinez made it back-to-back homers with a solo blast.

Miguel Ausua (1-0) took home the win, throwing five innings and allowing six runs (five earned). Y’alls starter Edgar Martinez (3-4) took the loss, giving up 10 runs over 3.2 innings.
