Standard Bank Stadium Announcement!

The Windy City ThunderBolts and Roosevelt University have entered into an agreement where the Roosevelt University Lakers baseball team will call Standard Bank Stadium home for the 2012 baseball season. Roosevelt University will schedule 9 home dates and utilize Standard Bank Stadium as an occasional practice facility in late March – April 2012. The schedule will be confirmed and announced soon.

The Lakers are proud members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and play in the competitive Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC). You can see them play other local schools, including Robert Morris University, Saint Xavier University, Trinity Christian College, and the University of St. Francis this season at Standard Bank Stadium.

Roosevelt University Athletic Director, Michael Cassidy and the entire coaching staff are excited on the announcement of this new partnership. Cassidy said, “The Roosevelt University Athletic Department is proud to call Standard Bank Stadium the new home for Lakers baseball. I want to thank Mike Lucas and the front office at the Windy City ThunderBolts for helping this become a reality.”

Head Coach, Steve Marchi leads the Lakers in their second season of NAIA baseball after finishing their inaugural campaign with a 9-30 record. “We appreciate the hospitality from the Windy City ThunderBolts and look forward to the chance to foster a relationship for subsequent years. It means a lot to us to be able to provide our student-athletes with experience that comes with playing in a top-notch facility,” Marchi commented.

Cassidy continued by saying, “At Roosevelt, we make a commitment to our student-athletes to provide them with the tools they need to be successful both in the classroom and on the playing field. One of those tools is providing them with the best facility to hone their craft and showcase their athletic skills. Standard Bank Stadium allows us to live up to that promise. Our student-athletes will now have access to all of the amenities of a minor league baseball facility and its location in a baseball crazy community allows us to continue to expand our reach as a program to new audiences."

In 2010-11, Roosevelt University reinstituted men's athletics, the Lakers competed in just basketball, soccer and tennis from the late 1940s until 1989, and for the first time sponsored women's intercollegiate athletics. Roosevelt competed in men's and women's cross country, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's basketball and baseball in 2010-11. The Lakers added women's volleyball in 2011-12, and will bring four more sports online in 2012-13 with men's and women's soccer, softball and men's golf.

“We are also very excited to welcome the Lakers and Roosevelt University to Standard Bank Stadium this Spring”, commented Windy City ThunderBolts General Manager, Mike Lucas. Lucas added, “Having the Lakers baseball program play their games in Crestwood and call Standard Bank Stadium their home builds community and social awareness for not only the ThunderBolts, but for Roosevelt University as their baseball program enters their second season.”

The Lakers have great expectations for the 2012 season. Head Coach Steve Marchi said, “We expect to take the lessons we learned from last year, coupled with a sound understanding of fundamental baseball and apply them to winning more games this season. The kids have been working hard on the field and in the gym and we think we should surprise a lot of people this Spring.”
