Bolts dusted by Boulders, 7-2

BOX SCORE

PONOMA, NY- The Windy City ThunderBolts surrendered their first series sweep of the season, falling to the New York Boulders, 7-2 Thursday evening at Clover Stadium.

The ThunderBolts (9-15) broke the scorless tie in the top of the second inning as Jonathan Waite crossed home plate after Jake Boone received a hit by pitch with the bases loaded.

New York (14-9) tacked on three runs in the bottom of the third inning, stemming from RBI singles by Tucker Nathans and Chris Kwitzer. Following the Boulders' RBI knocks, Gabriel Garcia hit a deep sacrifice fly, caught by Bolts’ left fielder Dan Robinson, who made a sliding catch down the foul line bringing the New York lead to 3-1 after three innings.

New York accumulated two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off a two-run double by David Vinsky.

The Bolts had plenty of opportunities to cash in runs, going 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position. Eight different players had at least one hit.

Windy City (9-15) starting pitcher Kenny Mathews (0-4) threw six innings, allowing five earned runs and surrendering eight hits while walking four and striking out five in the defeat.

The Boulders added two more runs in the seventh inning, this time on a hit by patch and a single, paving the way for the series sweep.

Bren Spillane added a team leading fifth home run with a solo shot to right-center field in the top of the ninth inning with two outs.

The Windy City road trip continues on Friday night. Henry Omana (4-0, 0.82) takes the mound as the ThunderBolts travel to Lake Erie for their first meeting of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 CT.
