WASHINGTON, PA – The Windy City ThunderBolts suffered a seventh straight defeat with a 14-6 loss to the Washington Wild Things on Independence Day. The Wild Things evened up the season series at two wins apiece.
The Bolts (18-26) started hot, plating four runs in the top of the first. Brian Fuentes drove in the first two with a double. Fuentes scored when he stole third and the throw went into left field. Jake Boone made it 4-0 with an RBI single.
The lead lasted only a half-inning. Washington erupted for seven first inning runs. Wagner Lagrange, Andrew Czech and Hector Roa all had run-producing hits before Alex Alvarez hit a solo homer to conclude the first inning.
The Bolts scored again in the second on another Fuentes RBI double. However, Washington retaliated in the bottom half with Czech’s second RBI hit of the night.
Josh Sandoval hit a solo homer in the third inning to make it a two-run game, 8-6. However, that’s the last run the Bolts mustered.
Washington added on with two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and sixth and two more in the eighth to run away.
Sebastian Selway (1-3) took the loss, allowing all seven first inning runs and only recording two outs. Rob Whalen (9-1) earned the win for Washington with five innings of six-run ball.
The ThunderBolts and Wild Things resume the three-game series Tuesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 PM CDT. The broadcast can be found at wcthunderbolts.com.
