Bolts win third straight

Ryan Soares

CRESTWOOD, IL – Ryan Soares had five hits and four RBIs to lead the ThunderBolts to an 8-2 win over the Joliet Slammers at Standard Bank Stadium Friday night.

The Bolts took the lead in the first inning on Soares’s first hit, a single that scored Kyle Robinson who had doubled. They made it 2-0 in the fourth when Soares led off with a double and Max White singled him in.

Joliet tied the score when Grant DeBruin singled to lead off the sixth and Russell Moldenhauer hammered a two-run homer to right.

The ThunderBolts did not let the tie last long. Soares doubled to lead off the bottom of the sixth and Garrett Carey was hit by a pitch. They stood at second and third with two outs when Mike McGuckin flew a double to left field, scoring Soares and Carey and giving the Bolts a 4-2 lead.

They added two more the following inning on a two-run Soares double that scored Robinson and Ryan McIntyre. RBI singles for Robinson and Soares in the eighth sealed the score at 8-2.

Travis Tingle (6-3) allowed two runs in 6.2 innings for the win and Jessie Snodgrass earned his third save, throwing the final 2.1 innings without allowing a hit. Matt Crim (0-1) took the loss, giving up four runs in 5.2 frames.

The ThunderBolts have won three straight games and will look for the sweep of Joliet on Saturday night. Josh Spence (0-4, 4.97) will start for the Bolts against a still to be determined starter for the Slammers.
