Bolts lose second straight one-run game in Washington

Things 2 Bolts 1

WASHINGTON, PA – Travis Tingle allowed just two runs in another strong start for the ThunderBolts, but the Bolts were shut out after the second inning in a 2-1 loss to the Washington Wild Things Saturday night at CONSOL Energy Park.

The ThunderBolts scored first, putting across a run in the top of the second inning. Max White led off with his first triple of the year and Matt Scioscia followed with an RBI groundout making it 1-0.

The Wild Things answered just minutes later, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second. William Beckwith began the inning with a walk Jim Vahalik moved him to second on a single. They stood at first and second with two outs when Daniel Poma singled to score Beckwith and tie the game. The next batter, Garrett Rau doubled to score Vahalik and the score was 2-1.

Travis Tingle settled in for Windy City after the second and the Wild Things got just two runners as far as second base over their last six innings.

The ThunderBolts did not have a strong offensive chance again until the seventh. Washington starter Alex Kaminsky at one point retired eight straight batters. In the seventh the Bolts got back-to-back one out singles from White and Scioscia, but Doug Joyce grounded into a double play and the ThunderBolts would not get another baserunner the rest of the game.

Kaminsky (1-0) allowed one run on six hits over 6.1 innings and picked up the win while Tingle (1-1) allowed two runs on eight hits over 6.2 innings, but took the loss. Jonathan Kountis pitched a perfect ninth inning and struck out two, notching his fifth save.

Game three of the series is Sunday evening in Washington. Jason Kafka (0-0, 1.80) will start for the Bolts against Washington’s Shawn Blackwell (1-0, 1.93). The game is scheduled to start at 4:05 CDT and fans can hear the broadcast on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
