CRESTWOOD, IL – Travis Tingle allowed only one earned run in 7.2 innings Wednesday night, leading the ThunderBolts to their seventh win in their last eight games, 4-2 over the Joliet Slammers at Standard Bank Stadium.
Windy City trailed briefly in the first when Darian Sandford singled to begin the game. He stole second and scored on two groundouts.
The ThunderBolts tied the score just two batters into the bottom of the first. Evan Button walked and Mike Torres tripled him in. Torres scored on a Ryan Soares groundout to give the Bolts the 2-1 lead.
Tingle followed up the Slammers’ first inning run by retiring the next nine men he faced. After allowing two hits in the fourth inning, he set down eight more consecutively.
The ThunderBolts scored their third run in the fifth. Kyle Robinson hit a leadoff single and was bunted to second by Andrew Brauer. Robinson scored on a Doug Joyce single.
Chad Cregar’s fifth home run of the year made the score 4-1 in the sixth.
Kyle Maunus doubled for the Slammers with one out in the top of the seventh inning and found his way to third on an errant pickoff attempt from Joyce. Maunus scored Joliet’s second run when Zak Colby hit a two-out infield single.
Tingle walked back-to-back batters with two outs in the eighth, but Jessie Snodgrass came out of the bullpen and struck out Niko Vasquez to end the threat.
Michael Click struck out the side in the ninth, pitching around a walk to finish the victory and secure his 18th save.
Tingle improved to 4-5 with the win and Andrew Busby (0-4) gave up four runs in 6.2 innings to take the loss.
