Otters rinse Windy City 8-6

EVANSVILLE, IN- The Windy City ThunderBolts fell in dramatic fashion to the Evansville Otters 8-6 Saturday night at Bosse Field.

 

A four-run seventh inning capped the Otters comeback, their first win of the season when trailing after six innings.

 

Peyton Issacson began the top of the second inning with a lead off single. ThunderBolts first baseman Micah Yonamine was hit by a pitch, and Daniel Robinson drew a walk to load the bases. 

 

Former Evansville (28-21) Otter and Windy City shortstop Troy Viola hit a ground ball between second and third base. On the backhand, Otters shortstop George Callil could not transition the throw leading to a 1-0 Windy City lead.

 

Windy City (21-29) right fielder Paul Coumoulos not only led off the game with a single, but drove in two runs in the top of the second, ripping a line drive off the tip of the glove of Otters’ first baseman Dakota Phillips for a 3-0 Bolts lead.

 

Evansville responded in the bottom of the third inning. Jomar Reyes knocked a lead off double and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by 2023 Frontier League All Star catcher Dakota Phillips. 

 

In the top of the fourth inning, Windy City knocked base hits from Robinson and Troy Viola. With two outs and down in the count 0-2, Jake Boone cracked a single to left field increasing the Bolts lead to 4-1. 

 

In the bottom of the fifth inning, ThunderBolts catcher Matt Morgan walked in a run with the bases loaded brining the score to 5-1.  

 

Evansville catcher Jake Greene doubled to left field to lead off the the bottom of the fifth. With one out, the Otters crunched four straight hits including RBI singles from Noah Myers and Kona Quiggle cutting the Bolts lead to 5-3. With runners at second and third and one out, Christman cuffed Jeffery Baez for a pop out and struck out Reyes to end the fifth inning. 

 

The Otters comeback continued into the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly from Bryan Rosario chopping the Bolts lead 5-4.

 

Windy City struck a deep fly with a solo home run by Issacson to right field, his second of the season aiding a 6-4 Bolts lead in in the top of the seventh. 

 

Cal Djuraskovic (1-2) entered the ball game in relief for Garrett Christman in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs, Baez doubled to keep the inning alive. After an intentional walk to Reyes, Phillips singled loading the bases. A walk to Callil brought the Otters within a run at 6-5. 

 

Jake Green singled in two runs for his third straight hit of the game, and the took their first lead of the evening 7-6 in the bottom the seventh. Green went 3-4 on the night with two doubles and two RBI’s, A passed ball gave the Otters the insurance run, cementing a 8-6 win.

 

James Krick (1-0) earned the win tossing 2.2 IP, surrounding one hit over one run while striking out two for Evansville. 

 

Windy City seeks a win before the All Star festivities at Ozinga Field for the series finale at Bosse Field Sunday evening at 5:05 CT.
