Bolts Fall Short of Sweep

BOX SCORE

Sauget, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts came up shy of a three-game sweep against the Gateway Grizzlies with a 5-3 loss on Thursday night at GCS Credit Union Ballpark. The Bolts were bidding for their second three-game sweep of the season.

Windy City (10-8) played from behind all night. In the bottom of the first, Gateway (10-8) scored on Clint Freeman’s RBI double. The Grizzlies added two more in the second inning when Jose Rosario hit a lead-off homer and Trevor Achenbach recorded a sacrifice fly.

The Bolts tallied for the first time in the third inning when Nikola Vasic drove home Brynn Martinez on a groundout. Gateway answered that run back in the bottom half on Cam Touchette’s RBI single.

Trailing by three runs in the fifth, Daryl Myers cut the deficit to one with a two-run single. But once again Gateway responded with a run in the bottom half to extend their lead to 5-3.

Bolts starter Bryan Ketchie (1-1) took the loss, throwing 5.2 innings and allowing five runs (three earned). Taylor Sugg (2-0) won it for Gateway, tossing two shutout innings in relief.

The ThunderBolts return home Friday night to play the Schaumburg Boomers. Miguel Ausua makes the start on the mound for Windy City against Schaumburg’s Kyle Arjona. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 CDT. For tickets, call 708-489-2255 or visit wcthunderbolts.com.
