ThunderBolts slug their way to victory 17-4

Bolts 17 Grizzlies 4

SAUGET, IL – The ThunderBolts set season-highs in hits and runs as they snapped a six-game losing streak, cruising to a 17-4 win over the Gateway Grizzlies at GCS Ballpark Sunday night.

The Bolts led 4-0 just four batters into the game, when Andrew Brauer and Mike Torres both reached base in front of a Kyle Robinson two-run double. Ryan McIntyre followed with a two-run homer.

Michael Allen’s solo home run in the second, his second in a week with the Bolts, made it 5-0. Michael Wing homered for the Grizzlies to make it 5-1, but Mcintyre put the ThunderBolts back ahead by five with his second long ball of the night, a solo shot in the third.

Windy City blew the game open with four runs in the fourth. Robinson, McIntyre and Max White each had RBI hits in opening a 10-1 lead. Garrett Carey then tripled to leadoff the fifth and scored on a Robinson base hit for the 11th run.

The Grizzlies plated one in the fourth inning and two in the sixth, with Michael Johnson picking up two RBI hits, but 11-4 would be as close as they would come.

Two-run singles for Robinson and White in the seventh helped put the ThunderBolts ahead 16-4 and Davidson Peguero’s RBI groundout in the ninth put a cap on the scoring.

McIntyre finished the game with four hits and four RBIs and Robinson had four hits and six RBIs.

Travis Tingle (7-5) pitched five innings of two-run ball for the win and Aaron Newcomb (9-5) could not get out of the fourth, allowing eight runs in taking the loss.

The ThunderBolts and Grizzlies will play the rubber match of their three-game set on Monday night. Josh Spence (0-7, 5.75) will get the start for the Bolts against Gateway’s Tucker Jensen (7-2, 4.50). First pitch from GCS Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 and the broadcast can be heard on Meridix.com.
