Bolts win fourth straight, sweep Evansville07/27/2013 8:16 PM
CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts completed their first series sweep of the year and tied their season-high by winning their fourth straight in an 8-3 win over the Evansville Otters at Standard Bank Stadium Saturday night. Windy City fell behind early as the Otters scored a run in the second and two in the third. C.J. Henry got the first run, reaching on an error and crossing the plate later on a Jordan Tripp groundout. The two-run third inning was highlighted by a Ricardo Lizcano RBI double. He scored on John Nester’s base hit. The ThunderBolts got their first baserunner in the bottom of the third. Andrew Brauer singled and Doug Joyce walked to begin the inning and they stood and third and second base with two outs when Mike Torres hit his second home run of the year, tying the score at three. It was Torres’s first career Standard Bank Stadium homer. Brian Oliver settled down for the Bolts after the third. He allowed only one more hit in his last four innings. The Bolts took the lead for good in the sixth. Torres singled and Ryan Soares tripled him in. Soares scored on Zach Aakhus’s sacrifice fly, making it 5-3. With two outs, they started another rally when Kyle Robinson singled. Brauer doubled him home and Brauer scored when the relay throw sailed out of play, giving the ThunderBolts a 7-3 advantage. The final run was posted in the eighth when Chad Cregar doubled and Robinson doubled him in. That run was the fifth the Bolts have scored this year against Evansville’s Eric Massingham. Massingham has not allowed a run against the rest of the league. Oliver (3-6) allowed two earned runs in seven innings, earning the win and Ryan Zamorsky (4-5) took the loss, giving up six earned runs in 5.2 innings. The ThunderBolts will go for a five-game winning streak on Sunday afternoon, when they take on the Schaumburg Boomers in game one of a two game series. Travis Tingle (3-4, 4.20) will start for the Bolts against Schaumburg’s Cody Griebling (4-5, 5.34). First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 at Boomers Stadium and fans not in attendance can hear the broadcast on WXAV, 88.3 FM and wxav.com. |
